The American Center in Moscow invites English learners of all ages, backgrounds, and speaking abilities to join us on Zoom for weekly meetings of the English Conversation Club every Thursday at 20:00 MSK. 

Each session, 6-8 native English-speaking hosts facilitate breakout rooms, which are divided by level of English proficiency (Beginner A1/A2, Intermediate B1, Upper Intermediate B2, and Proficient C1/C2). You are able to choose which room you join based on your confidence in English conversation, and you can change rooms at any time during the meeting. Each week, discussions are supplemented by a new list of topics & questions.

The English Conversation Club is a wonderful opportunity to practice your English conversation skills under the guidance of native speakers, meet new people, and engage in interesting conversations with people from around the world. We hope to see you there!

Topics for Thursday, October 15th

Topic #1: Memory

• What kinds of things are easiest for you to remember?
• Are you good at remembering names and faces?
• What is one of your favorite childhood memories?
• Why do you think some memories stay with us for a long time?
• Can a song, smell, or place suddenly bring back a memory for you?
• Do you prefer taking lots of photos or simply enjoying the moment?
• What is something small that you remember surprisingly clearly?
• Are you good at remembering birthdays, appointments, and important dates?
• Do you think photographs help us remember things, or can we become too dependent on them?
• If you could experience one happy memory again for one day, which would you choose?

Topic #2: Shopping 

• Do you enjoy shopping? Why or why not?
• What do you enjoy shopping for the most?
• Do you prefer shopping online or in a store?
• Do you usually know exactly what you want before you go shopping?

1. What is your favorite smell?

2. Is there a smell that immediately reminds you of childhood?
